Lady Jane was written in August of 1991, the night before going into the studio to record some tracks. The studio was booked and the musicians I'd organised pulled out the day before, so I had to come up with some different tracks that I could record solo. The song was inspired by the ladies working the streets on The Reeperbahn in Hamburg, Germany. But mainly by one beautiful young girl in particular who at the time seemed about my age…15 or 16yrs. I was on holiday in Europe a few years before, as a teenager with my parents and we were doing the tourist thing visiting the Reeperbahn.
I thought it so sad that she was out there and that image of her has always stuck in my mind.
